Harry Bosch is back at the LAPD in Homicide after disciplinary leave. But his first case proves to be one of the most difficult. In the wooded hills overlooking the Hollywood Bowl, he opens the trunk of a white Rolls-Royce and finds a corpse. It looks like a simple case of Trunk Music - the execution style of the Mafia where the victim is shot in his own vehicle - but the victim is LA movie producer Tony Aliso, and the mob weren't the only ones after him. Bosch finds himself up against the FBI - and back in the arms of a beautiful ex-felon. It's starting to look like Harry's first case back in Homicide is in danger of being his last . . .

Leonard Bernstein was the quintessential American musician. Through his careers as conductor, pianist, teacher and television personality he became known across the US and the world, his flamboyance and theatricality making him a favourite with audiences, if not with critics. However, he is perhaps best remembered as a composer, particularly of the musical West Side Story, and for songs such as 'America', 'Tonight' and 'Somewhere'. Dr Helen Smith takes an in-depth look at all eight of Bernstein's musical theatre works, from the early On the Town written by the 26-year-old composer at the start of his career, to his second and last opera A Quiet Place in 1983; in between these two pieces he composed music for Trouble in Tahiti, Wonderful Town, Candide, West Side Story, Mass and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. These works are analysed and considered against a background of musical and social context, as well as looking at Bernstein's other orchestral, choral and chamber works. One important aspect examined is Bernstein's use of motifs in his theatre compositions, which takes them out of the realms of Broadway and into the sphere of symphonic writing. Smith provides an indispensable overview of the musical theatre works of an eclectic composer, and shows what it is that constitutes the Bernstein 'sound'.

That Old Black Magic Vol.2 is a collection of thought-provoking stories mixing the real with the unreal, the wonderful with the frightening, and the Good with the Evil. It offers the promise that something insightful can be found even in the worse of experiences: “You think you’re so smart,” the old woman said with a smile, holding the sleeping child in her arms. “I could tell you everything and not a soul would ever believe you. You’d wind up in a mental institution before anyone would ever believe a word you have to say.” She laughed. “Picture that: a kind, gray-haired old mother turning her grown son back into a child.” She laughed harder. “You can wander this Earth telling everyone, and you’ll never get him back!” Mrs. Robinson, in "Give Him Back!" Vol.2 adds onto the fourteen stories in Vol.1, and heads in fourteen new directions: a troll, a runaway, a loving yet suicidal couple, a pair of angels, and a sexy vampire, to name a few. So, what are you waiting for? Are you... scared?
